More RecommendedI am in the process of building a kegerator and I am using an HPS Glow in the Dark beer tap with a standard 5-1/4" CO2 regulator. I am looking for a power inverter to control a set of LED lights that I want to place behind the unit. This kegerator has a handle that is not too large, and I was wondering if I could simply use a power inverter to turn the normal 12v power into a higher voltage (say 24v) and then connect the LED lights to that. I want to use the LED lights because of the ease of changing from clear to a glow in the dark and the ease of turning the lights on/off with an on/off switch. A quick search led me to what looks like a good product. It looks like it would be pretty easy to configure. The unit is a solar inverter. You can use the daylight brightness to determine when to run and if it is clear outside, it will run. After some more research, it appears that these inverters are for use in very small devices such as the ones designed for powering small pocket sized flashlights. The high current requirement of these lights is not compatible with the standard 12v power supply. In addition, the efficiency of converting the direct current from the solar panel to alternating current for use by a typical 12v light source is very poor. While this particular inverter is a relatively small unit, it would not be appropriate to use in a more traditional inverter system. The high current draw would be a problem with the typical 120v system. In the end, I decided to purchase a simple AC-DC switch from my local Harbor Freight store. This allows me to control the LED lights with an on/off switch. Looking at a variety of products in a local store, the 12v battery pack comes in at around $25. I can purchase a small LED tube light for around $20, so the switch that I ordered is around $5. If anyone wants to discuss or comment, please do so. Last edited by KSf715; 05-22-2013 at 07:26 PM. Reason: Inconvenience Thanks for the input. It sounds like you are not going to use the inverter on
